August 2007
Another update is well past due... in fact it's been so
long, I can't remember what we've done since the last one.
March marked the anniversary of our arrival in Abu Dhabi
and time to make some changes to our living arrangements. Out with
the one bedroomed flat above M&S and in with the brand new 3.5
bedroomed flat with swimming pool... and gym apparently. The 0.5th
bedroom is for the maid, who in our household gets to sleep in the
master bedroom, so it's now a study with ensuite.
In April I moved to a new job in the British Council - a
new Regional role which sees me overseeing project work across the
Middle East - very exciting and a little scarey. My first regional visit
was to Qatar - not much to say about that.
We got to celebrate the Queen's birthday at an Embassy
garden party - conveniently at the same time as Amy's birthday.
In May, we took our first proper holiday - 2 weeks in
Malaysia. We made the most of Etihad's hotel partnerships and stayed at
fantastic 5 star hotels in Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi. We had a great
time, hired mopeds on Langkawi, whizzed around the island on a beach bar
hop and gorged on Thai food... Langkawi is very close to Thailand!
In June, I was back in the UK holding a training event
for my new regional team - much patience required... London public
transport and a lot of rain did not make for happy campers.
In July we had back-to-back visitors and trips - Nick's
family, an old friend from Australia (Ben), a weekend in Geneva for
Nick, rounded off with a week in the UK to launch Etihad's new
sponsorship of Harlequins rugby club. A very good month for having
fun and catching up with people... rather a lot of work to catch up on
now!
There's a whole story about dune bashing with Ben and
getting stuck in the desert for half the night... it'll have to wait.
That's all for now but I'm working on a new enhanced
news service so hold on to your seats!
